He was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity at Indiana University. He began his career working with the family business, Lee Door and Sash, where he later became president and owner. I only knew Hal for a short time and for only brief periods of time as he came into the UPS Store to make his weekly copies of the bulletin for church, but each and every time he entered the store he always had a big smile and made all of us feel special to him. He was always the jokester, often times sharing a new joke with us or poking fun at himself for his height. I will miss scolding him for leaving the papercutter blade “up” when he finished, as he did almost every time he used it. He may not have been blessed with height, but he was filled with love, compassion and such a good natured spirit. He blessed everyone he came in contact with and I am happy I was one of those people that had the privilege of knowing him. Our heavens have truly gained another angel. God Bless you Hal and your family.

Hal was a vibrant man with a quick smile, booming voice & quick wit. I’m going to miss all the emails he would send with either funny jokes or cartoons, and quite often some very beautiful photography or artwork along with some poignant stories. He was always quick to express his concern for others and keep those he loved in his prayers. He was a man of many words, enjoyed publishing the church bulletins, working Sudoku puzzles, and composing letters for the Homeowner’s Association where he served on the board for many years. I will miss his love of life and his smile. He was a great friend and will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hal-¦s parents and mine were bridge partners and they did their best to teach us the game, but I never could remember the cards. At Shortridge, Hal tried to teach me golf and change my politics. No luck with either. He took me to my first dance (with a bouquet of yellow roses and violets) and gave me my first kiss. After high school, we only met once or twice and later I tried to find him through the internet and never did. I am very happy that he had such a long and fruitful life and a large family. My sincere condolences to his wife, children, and grandchildren and to his brother. I am sorry I never got to know you.

“Uncle Hal” has been a part of my life for truly as long as I can remember. The cabin at Otsego Lake where my parents and his entire family played cards while “the kids” just played. A lifetime of memories will be with me always. I am so thankful he and Carol were able to visit the beautiful panhandle of Florida for the past couple of years. On their last visit to our home, he shared beautiful books-“As A Man Thinketh” with my two 16 year old boys (and always candy). I am so thankful you have been a part of my life forever. Going to fix a cup of coffee and watch a beautiful sunset for you Uncle Hal as you watch over us from a new perspective in Heaven. I love you-Gail

Hal played a an interesting role in our lives. It was while on a date with Hal when we double-dated with his good friend, Rick and his date, that we first met. Rick and I have married for almost 50 years due to that fortunate time.
We lost contact with Hal and his family when Rick’s engineering job took us to Milwaukee and then on to Connecitut. Then while cruising the internet, looking at Anglican Catholic churches, Rick found Harry R. Lee, listed as a Lay Reader at the church of the Good Shephard, and contacted him. What wondereful time the last couple of years have been e-mailing and talking on the phone with Hal and Carol.
We hope that Carol gets on the computor and e-mails us as often as Hal did to keep in touch.
Yes, we know that Hal is in a better place, but he will be missed.

Dear Carol, Jo & I send our prayers to you on the passing of Hal. You’ve done so much for him and now you must take care of yourself. Take care and know how much we all thought of him. I can’t begin to repeat all the great times at KDR…times we’ll never forget…he just made me laugh all the time. Take care.
